In the probably the last post about “the new PIMs on old Palms” you can read how to hide the old applications (Date Book, To Do List, Address Book, Memo Pad) and how to hotsync your data.

Hiding the old applications

Now that you’ve installed the new applications (Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, Memos) on your handheld, there are now both the new and the old apps in the launcher. To hide the old apps, you need the following files from a device with the new apps (Tungsten T3, E work fine):

  • DateBook *and* localization file(s) (Date Book_deDE for German, Date Book_enUS for English, …)
  • Address Book and localization file(s)
  • Memo Pad and localization file(s)
  • To Do List and localization file(s)

Read part 2 how to get files from another device’s ROM.

Syncing your data

The new PIMs run on your Palm – but you can’t hotsync anymore? It seems that you have an old version of Palm Desktop / Pocket Mirror / … which doesn’t understand the new data format. So you need a new version of Palm Desktop, I recommend version 4.1.4. It includes several languages, MS-Outlook and VersaMail conduits. It keeps your old data but you should backup your files before.

Do you like the new apps?
