Now that ipods can store contacts, have color screens, play movies, and play music, Would you consider just buying an ipod instead of a palm? Everything I did on my zodiac I can now do on an ipod, except for use a touch screen. But is the click wheel good enough? I am considering buying a 30gb ipod and using that as my main device. The only thing that I would miss is internet, but internet on a 320*320 or 320*480 screen isn’t that great anyways.
What do you think? Is palm no longer needed? or am I just to in love with the ipod? Think of it this way, 30gb ipod $299 or a 4gb lifedrive $499 or a 2gb ipod nano $199 tungsten T5 $349. a Tungsten T5 can’t do that much more than an ipod and is more expensive.
what do you think?

iPod and Palm are 2 different category of devices. If your needs is just mp3 and video, then iPod is fine. But if you need more than music n video, then go Palm.
No way! What is so special about an iPod? I really can’t “see” the light no matter how hard I try and I really try. What can the iPod do that the Palm can’t do? What the Palm do that the iPod can’t do? Lots! In my view, iPods are little more than expensive hard drives. Sorry, that’s probably because I love Palms and until I find something better, I don’t think I’ll leave my Palm.
Hi,
I beleive that the main IPOD problems are:
a)lack of data input possibility
b)Lack of third party aps
I personally beleive an ipod to be just an overhyped piece of tech-you gotta have a look at their bill of matereails(wil lpost it soon).
Best regards
Tam Hanna
actually, lack of 3rd party apps is wrong, their is a program that allows you to run linux on the ipod. and the new ipods come with games now too.
Can you play emultation (GBC, SNES, NES, Atari 2800, Genesis, Game Gear)games on an Ipod?
can you Remote access you PC or Mac using a VNC software on an Ipod?
Can you take pictures with an Ipod?
Can you use an Ipod as a Remote control for your TV, DVD, CD, TiVo?
Can you play more than 4 or 5 video and audio formats on the Ipod?

Can you use the Ipod to Show Power Point presentations with out the use of a computer?
Can you draw (cheaply) on an ipod?
i could list more
but many of this questions have a NO answer.
so as somebody else said. you need to consider what do you need, and then decide.
i am not saying the Ipod is a bad product. It is actually one of the most cool things i have seen. but any ways. i do prefer the multiple purposes you can give a Palm over the good Hard Drive capacity of an MP3 player.
God Bless
Well, I am pretty sure that there is a Doom port for Linux on iPods, but other than that, the number of real games is limited.
Just one thing: On an iPod you have no input options, unless running podzilla. I have a Lifedrive, and bought an iPod photo a month after. I use it as a portable disk and mp3 player. I don’t think i made a wise decision buying the ipod, it was more emotionally based, fell in love with the desig and coolness.
except the battery life on the ipod is something to shoot for.
of course i have creative nano for music… which lasts for 15+hours so i have no use for an ipod..
Hi,
I just got myself an E2,. With a 2GB SD card, I have a pretty long running OGG player with extra value. My jacketpockets already now are full, so why add in extra stuff…
Best regards

i think it is the best to have both.
for my part, i use an ipod mini and a clie ux50
of course… the ipod has mor memory, but the display(thats what i need most) is on the ipods to small……

can a 2gb sd card really work on an E2?
I am writing this on a Palm TX with an foldable wireless keyboard. Can you do that with an iPod? I forgot to write a paper for one of my classes so I pulled out my palm and keyboard wrote it before class and printed it on a bluetooth enabled printer. Can you do that with an iPod? I also put all three Lord of the Rings on an SD card and watched them on a long car ride.
Now you can get a 8gb memroy card for palms with SDHC support for around $80 off ebay so now the memroy of a palm with wma music which has the same sound quality at half as many kbps as mp3 so it would be the same as a 16gb ipod. the button layout on the ipod is no good for games except basic ones like pong and the screen isn’t as big on an ipod video while the whole ipod is still the same size of a palm. refurbished zire 72s are around $180 and new are around $210 so the palm + 8gb (=16gb ipod if used with wma) memory card is the same as the ipod. if you want a standalone mp3 player there are also other ones much better than the ipod nano such as a 4 or 8gb sandisk sansa which is only a bit thicker, a lot more durable, the screen ocupies at least half of it so u can watch vids. it can listen to radio, record voice in mp3 format i think, has an expansion slot more micro sd cards (curently u can get a 2gb micro sd card for around $50) and it can be used as a removeable hard drive and again it uses wma so you can hold twice as many songs with an 8gb sandisk sansa as you can with a 8gb nano where both products are about the same price ($20 give or take)
Hi,
just for “honor defence”.
I am not an ipod freak myself(dont like em – overpriced stuff)…and thus keep out of the discussion except for saying that your points are valid!
Best regards

I think you should compare the Palm tungsten T3 to Ipod touch 2g, see the results because palm wins that one, and the T3 was made in ’03, the 2g was made on about ’09!
