This is a short guide on how to get Netfront onto the T5 or TX. The procedure should be the same for both, but I only have a TX for testing, and it is only certified to work on a TX, though I have been told it may work on both. If you follow these directions and it doesn’t work, I can’t help you. If you dont follow the directions, do not ask me whats wrong. Look again. That said, here is the guide.
Files you will need:
Get a copy of either ZLauncher or UDMH (I recommend both) to move the files. The Netfront program cannot be moved over with a normal file manager without UDMH, though ZLauncher can handle it. ZLauncher is very good at moving files.
First, you have to install MaxX. Don’t hotsync to the handheld. If you have no other method to transfer files, hotsync it to the card. Get your filemanager and move it over to the handheld. RESET your handheld (soft reset of course)
After that, we move to the small fonts. These are a little trickier, but hopefully they will work on first try. Get them on your card (again, dont hotsync to the handheld), and then move them to the handheld. Just for kicks, do another reset here. The names of these files are: HalfFontExtn, HDDHalfFonts, HRFontSel, and HRLib.
Lastly is the Netfront file. This is very particular. You MUST use either ZLauncher or a file manager with UDMH. Dont ask me why, just do it. Get it on your card. To do that, a direct transfer is preferable over a hotsync. Once on your card, move it over. Again, I recommend ZLauncher for this. Once that is done, one last reset, and run Netfront.
There you go. Thats what I did, I hope it works for you.

why netfront? what’s better than blazer?

sony should die, after the retreat of sony!
Umm, Netfront is by Access, the new owners of Palm OS, so if the creators of Netfront should die, then Palm OS goes bye bye.
JAmerican
could you post a link at least for the clie fonts?
got everything else
@tckober73: Do you mean the small fonts (of Clie Launcher, NetFront, etc.)? You need HalfFontExtn, HDDHalfFont (and probably 2 or 3 further files) from a Clie’s ROM, e. g. TH55. Then do a soft-reset and the fonts work ;-))
Alex
Yep!
Don’t have clie owners around me
Any link? Couldn’t find them on 1src.
Fonts goes here:
http://rapidshare.de/files/9645131/NetFrontSmallFonts.zip.html
I cant use this in T5. Soft reset-loop starts after they installed. Any clue how to solve this? Do I need this fonts?

works like a charm on my T5!
thanks a lot!!
Mmm I tried all the thing on my T3 but it didn’t worked… with the patched Netfront the palm entered an endless reset cycle…
Any clue? Can I make it work?
Greetings from Chile
No, it is probably not going to work on a T3. Dmitry tells me that MaxX definitely doesnt work on the T3, and it is really required for the whole thing to work.
No, that’s impossible. I don’t think that MaxX is required, I know many Palms (C, T3) and NetFront works without it. On a T3 unfortuanely only in 320×320 mode except you have CodeDriver.
Alex
Hi,
did you try it on a T3 with the DIA update installed?
Best regards
Tam Hanna
P.s. I gotta try to backport the Tungsten T5 rotation libraries to my T3. They should add a nice speed boost afaik!
You may be right, though MaxX does a better job with compatability. That is, it will run better with MaxX installed, and in fullscreen.

Very nice. It worked on my TX.
Flawless. Thanks so much!
Would it work on Zire 72?
Do it as described above, it should work, but don’t install MaxX, you won’t need it on a Zire 72.
Alex
Today i tried netfront 3.1 on my t5 and it worked.
Here is how.
a. I used drive mode to transfer all files.
b. Used rescoExplorer to transfer files from internal memory to RAM.
1. Installed maxX to RAM and did a soft reset (important).
2. Installed netfront small fonts and did a soft reset.
3. installed netfront to RAM , again a soft reset.
my t5 refused to open netfront saying its for clie.
4. Installed MakeClie to RAM, started it and pressed MAKEUX50 button.
5. I started netfront now , and it worked.
6. No other applications (including Blazer) have any problem.
Hi rajesh,
thank you for the detailled post!
Best regards
Tam Hanna
Blazer has same browser core as NetFront plus some “tweaks” by Palm Inc.
This way they propably tweaks all PalmOS stuff …
Check out About>Credits in Blazer 4.3 and you will suprised.
Works with the LD as well. Now I can acctually download files with my LD, sadly still not to the HD, but at least the SD Card now works.
How does one adjust the font size to use or not use the Clie fonts? I don’t see the setting in Netfront to allow those to be changed
thanks
I went ahead and installed this on my T | X because I’ve just become so sick of Blazer’s slow start time and it’s inability to keep anything in its cache w/o crashing (and it’s inability to render a saved page w/o asking me to reconect 15 times, and…). I got it working without problems. I was mildly impressed, though I thought the UI could use a bit of polish. Until I went to my Flickr page, that is. LO AND BEHOLD, NETFRONT HAS HTTP FILE UPLOADING ENABLED!! I can FINALLY upload files from my SD card to Flickr (and other places) using only my web browser. Previously my only s olutions were e-mail (works for Flickr, but not some webapps) or FTP (which my webhost doesn’t want to run; SFTP is preferred, but there is no Palm SFTP client). So finally Palm users have a way to upload files with a web browser. Thank you Tam!!
Yes, NetFront supports file uploading, but Blazer (at least with installed FileBrowser) and Web Pro too.
NF doesn’t download to HDD? That’s strange, it should support multiple cards… But you can try SharkDownload, Downloader or LGet.
Alex
@William:
You can adjust the rendering mode (desktop layout, SSR,…) using the fifth icon. Then the fonts get smaller or bigger. I read on 1src that you can adjust the fonts with the sixth icon, but on my device it’s disabled.
Alex
Hi,
I also wanted to say that WebPro 3.5 supports uploading(rather well). And in case you missed the editorial on PalmOne Files, it is here:

You know you guys wanna say it… “CLIE is the best. We live on because of CLIE”
lol.
Thanks to CLIE, Netfront is on Palm because Palm sucks and can’t just license the app from the new owners of Palm. I have a feeling ALP won’t be licensed either. Just the core and Palm is gonna create a sucky version of Palm OS with the ALP core.

I (accidentally…) installed MaxX via hotsync. Is this going to create problems when I install either SonyFonts or Netfront later? I tried to delete/unistall MaxX, but it says it’s protected. Thanks for any advice.
I installed the MaxX file as directed. But did not get a full screen option for NetFront. So I decided to delete and reinstall NetFront. I manually deleted the “NF…” files. But I left the NetServLib file. It seemed to reinstall OK per the instructions above. But when I select NetFront I get a “wrong network setting” error. I have no idea what that means.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Larry W
I should clarify my last post. I had already installed NetFront, the fonts and MaxX previously per the instructions above. My reference to installing MaxX in the previous email is in reference to the updated MaxX file.
Larry W
i got it runing on my t5, flawlessly!
thanks guys!
Very cool! I put it on my TX with no problems. Thanks!
Does this work on the Treo 650? If so do I need to install maxx?
Hi,
I am not sure about it working on the Treo 650, UDMH will definitely be a must though(and LOTS of free RAM).
About MAXX, nope, imho you dont need that, but as said, I am not sure!
Please tell us what you found out!
Tam Hanna
No, NetFront crashes my Treo 650. I didn’t install maxx. Maybe someone will get it working.
Hi,
did you install UDMH AND have enough RAM free?
Best regards
Tam Hanna
Will Web Pro work on the Palm TX?
NetFront worked on my TX for a while, but a week or so later it sometimes wouldn’t open, when launching it, it launches but doesn’t finish and immediatley quits itself. Weirdly, a few days later it launches nornally, and works, but then a few days later it launches fine, but then when I go try and go to a website, it displays a message “Invaled Network settings.” I have been using it on the same wirless router as before when it worked fine, so thats not the problem I think.
Anyone else have the same problem, and/or knows how to fix it?
- Nick
Nick, you can try it. Web Pro should work on the TX. Unfortuanely I have no solution for your NetFront problem…
Alex
Hi,
I have had the following “experiences” with 3.5:
Tungsten E2..works well
Tungsten T5 saqw it quickly, didnt work back then
Thank you. Works great on Palm TX. Not as good as Blazer on some sites but indispensable for one crucial special HTTPS page that Blazer cannot handle.
Could you explain why Access is not releasing an official Palm version?

It works also on a Tungsten C, without MaxX.
Better than the bundled web browser… Why Palm did not release an update ???
Charly
I’m having trouble uninstalling. I can’t delete HDDHalfFonts, through the launcher or FileZ, and what I can delete puts me into a reset cycle. Can anyone direct me to an uninstallation process?
You can install it directly with a Hotsync now, see http://www.1src.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110728
Should it works on a Lifedrive without MaxX?
Works fine on my LD - with Dimitry’s installer! So Maxx is there - haven’t tried it w/o it tho… I was tired of Blazer resetting my LD coz I use G1 on it…

I get “page too long errors” on many websites. Any suggestions? Otherwise netfront rocks.

Great browser. Installed and runs flawlessly. I run a TX.
Hi!
After I installed Netfront to my TX, Agendus crashes when I try to create a new date. The TX does a soft reset as soon as I hit the day that the date is due.
After deleting Netfront again, Agendus works perfectly again.
Anyone else had the same experience?
