Some of you will laugh your hide off whenm you see this post. However, there is a discussion at the developer mailing list going on right now about this topic. To cut a long story short:
Windows Mobile 5 is not Palm OS! You can essentially run all kinds of Windows Mobile apps including StyleTap, but no PalmOS apps of any kind! So, anything that comes out of your PODS will NOT run on your Treo 700…

I’m very amused about this.
But I can’t understand that developers discuss about this. If this where normal users then I would say “Ok the don’t understand the difference between PalmOS and Windows Mobile!”
But developers should know this differnce!
Well, it poses a problem for Palm developers, because they cant just easily port their Treo 650 programs over to the 700w. They need a new IDE, and have to learn the ins and outs of the WM OS. For the users it is even worse. The problem is that in fact (due to Palms buyout of the Palm name) we are going to have to realize that Palm NO LONGER means PalmOS. The name of the OS will be changing to something else, and we will be stuck with a very large change in thinking. The issue is big. Users with a “Palm” Treo should be able to run “Palm” apps on it, shouldnt they? In my opinion, this whole naming thing was a really big mistake for both companies.
The Palm users aren’t the loosers. I think the Windows users who think this strange things are only the idiots.
This is another thing the users have to learn! There isn’t ever an Palm where You can read Palm!
For Microsoft this is a good deal, there is an formerly enemy who is actually a friend. It’s the best that can be occure!
An old Palm user like me wouldn’t buy this worse Treo 700w!
StyleTap Inc. now supports the Treo 700w in its latest version (0.9.108) which is now available on our website (www.styletap.com). Users can now run thousands of programs originally written for Palm OS on their Treo 700ws.
BTW, I would recommend that anyone using it on a Treo 700w, should be sure to read the release notes http://www.styletap.com/index.php?page=release_notes.html.
I think that it interesting to note that a lot of WM applications do not run properly or are awkward to use on square screen WM 5 devices, but Palm applications are a perfect fit.

Hi robert,
thank you for talking back!
However, the intent of the article was to say that it is not possible to run such apps NATIVELY…
