To be honest, it could ne possible that this is real. Apple has touchscreen experience with their Newton boxen, and the touchscreen idea for media players isn’t really new either.
What do you think?

  1. While it seems an almost logical step, getting rid of the mechanical wheel to leave space for a biger screen, it´s also IMO a dangerous one: touchscreen sliders are not as reliable as the mechanical ones and the Ipod click wheel is one of it´s big pluses.
Anyway, as You said, Apple has longtime experience with touchscreens and they´ve retained their rights over Newton technology…so maybe it´s time to use some.

  2. But surely the current 5th gen. click wheel is actually a touchscreen. It’s basiclly a glipepad that you would find on a laptop with pad pivoting on a rocker to give the switch action.

SImply making the entire thing a touchpad would not be a big change in my opinion.

  3. Hi,
I believe that the main problems will be:

    a)Mechanical sensitivity to scratches
    b)Fat/sweat from user’s fingers

    Best regards
