Recently, Nexave had the TX going for just 210€, which is a very good price for austria. However, neither I(T3) nor Alexander Gratz(TC) upgraded…
The reason for this is simple. The TX does not give us a significant benefit over our current machines. The dynamic RAM of both machines is double to triple the TX’s amount, and the processor is faster too. Due to FullPower our batteries last long enough,… .
So much on thoughts. But does that make the TX a bad device? I dare to say nope, we simply aren’t the intended audience for the box.
A few months ago, Jeff Kirvin(god bless him wherever he may be) podcasted about triangular upgrading-Palm does not expect users to directly jump from model to model, but rather “evolve” slowly, upgrading once every one to two years.
And indeed, for a m5xx and partially also Tungsten T or T2 owner, this handheld makes a lovely upgrade(if you forget about the voice recorder for now). These machines slowly but surely get old, and the TX has everything needed to replace them. The CPU is faster, the RAM is bigger, the dynamic heap is bigger too.
If the rumours about the new Treo 700p’s memory configuration are true, time has slowly but surely come for us though. The handheld generation that follows it will probably have the same huge dynamic RAM and probably also a faster processor-then, the tooth of time will gnaw on olur purses once again…
What do you think?

You are precisely right. I have a TX…but only because my Z71 died. If it were still working, I would still be using it and be $300 USD richer. The only reason I went with a TX as opposed to some other device is that it gave me the most of what I wanted for the price.
The post is very poetic :-).
You are right, Palm does not offer machines for users who bought a high-end PDA like the TC or T3. I also have a T3 and don’t think there is a better Palm on the market. They have only wifi (some of them…) and non-volatile memory, but nothing more. Processors are slower, dynamic heaps are smaller (what a non-sense), no vibration alarm and voice recording…
I switched from the T3 to the TX and I don’t regret. The battery life of the TX and the Wlan makes it a really outstanding device. Also I had already a few situations where the NVFS saved me the backup. How often did I wake up with my T3 and it was just empty, the battery was drained and the memory was flushed. All because it waked up in the middle of the night and unfortunately crashed and stuck in the Fatal Alert. the TX takes it cool, and even if it crashes and stuck adn the battery gets drained, all data are right there where I left it.
Also don’t forget about the big storage space, all the apps put there get notified, can do alarms etc. it’s quite amazing, if you know the internals. The low dynamic memory is a pity but thanks to UDMH my favorite game runs
Well, I have a TC , and it has both a good battery and WLAN, two things I really need. And I think one thing is almost more important than dynamic memory: a vibration alarm. I used this very often. And perhaps a microphone if Skype sometimes releases their app for Palm OS…

I just got my T|X, and it actually makes sense as the upgrade from my T|C. While I will grant the processor speed is slightly slower, the larger screen, full stereo sound, Bluetooth and more functional Wi-Fi suite seems to be a decent balance. Keep in mind, though, that I spent 8 months wrestling with the instability of a LifeDrive, and had to do back to my T|C for a few weeks recently. I definitely appreciate what the T|C has to offer beyond the LifeDrive, but after having lived in the larger screen for some time, reverting to 320×320 was painful. My situation was also a bit unique: my T|C had developed cracks and was somewhat unreliable, the LifeDrive had been purchased by my employer for me, and I ended up getting a T|X for free using PalmPaysBack points, so it wasn’t a “should I buy a replacement” situation.
There is no one-size-fits-all Palm solution. As always, examine *your* needs and *your* uses, and find a Palm handheld that works for you. {Prof. Jonathan}
…would please anybody be so kind as to drop me the URL to the TX offer by 210 EUR?
Cheers
George
Hi,
the action for 210 already is over!
I personally don’t really need Wi-Fi, as I still use the Palm as an offline box mostly. NVFS is a good idea, but personally, I have a backup SD card and thus dont really fear loosing any data…
Best regards

I took the leap and bought a T|X, upgrading from a T|C (which I sold on eBay). Guess what I just did? Bought a very nice used T|C that will be replacing my T|X (which I will be selling on eBay).
The T|X seems like a logical upgrade to the T|C, but it’s actually quite a different beast. The bigger screen, stereo sound, and newer apps are nice, but the built-in keyboard is what is drawing me back to the T|C. The T|X is also missing vibrating alarms, charge LED, a cradle, and is no where near as stable as the T|C (not even close). NVFS should NOT be considered a feature — it’s a nuisance, causing way too many compatability issues with apps that work fine on other OS5 devices.
I think the T|X was definitely made to be a first-time Palm purchase, maybe to lure some people over from PocketPCs because of the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, large screen, and multimedia capabilities all at a low price. However, when you compare the T|X feature by feature with other Palm devices (especiallly the T|C), the T|X usually comes up short. The T|X cannot be used as a laptop replacement, which is how I was able to easily use my T|C.
I’m not saying the T|X is not a good solution for some, but it definitely was not for me. I’m happy to go back to the T|C, and only wish that I was going back to my own T|C (should’ve never sold it!).
