Recently, Blizzard(maker of World of Warcraft) performed a stunt that nobody quite understood-they attacked the author of a World of Warcraft hint book. Uh-oh! Don’t we usually love fans of our software?
To be perfectly honest, I start to see a ‘logic’ behind Blizzard’s recent actions in terms of World of Warcraft! Yes, they a$$ up one or the other customer every now and then. Bloggers cover the incidents, and they eventually propagate to news sites.
And once this happens, Blizzard’s marketing department starts the party. Advertising costs cash-a lot of it. A lawyer and a few lost customers cost less-and achieve more than an ad campaign actually.
An ad campaign usually does not cover editorials, etc-and those are much more effective than a simple, dumb sidebar link…
So, when reading about Blizzard attacking another poor person that has to do sth with World of Warcraft, better relax. And when you see the editorials popping up-just post a link to this story!
