End of March I sold my TX. And I bought myself a Tungsten C. I will tell you why I made this “downgrade”.
At first sight the TX is the better device: the TC doesn’t have BT, it has a smaller screen, less RAM, only mono sound and the old PIM software. But why did I sell the “better” device? Because of this two main reasons:
- Grafitty: the recognition rate of the TX’s Grafitty field is really bad. Entering more than a handfull of characters is very uncomfortable. The TC has a keyboard which makes writing much more easy.
- stability: The TX was the Palm which needed the most resets ever. Especially VersaMail caused one softreset after another. I had to reset the TC only once since I’ve got it.
This were the reasons which made me sell my TX. Now that I own a TC, I realized some more advantages of this device:
- speed: programms run faster than on the TX. E.g. AvantGo starts up maybe a second faster.
- screen: the display of my TX had a slightly blue touch. The TC’s screen has clear, pure and bright colours.
I don’t miss BT and stereo audio too much. I have a T-Mobile SDA now (more on that soon) which I use for mail, internet and chat on-the-go. And I have an iPod for listening to music.
At all, the TC is not a perfect Palm. But I don’t want my TX back anymore.
Did you ever change to an older Palm?

Interesting.
For a while I lusted after my wife’s T5, but I got over that fairly quicky when it developed numerous recalcitrant personalities.
Eventually, when the cheap plastic case for my T/C encountered many fractures I repaired it and then purchased another back-up machine (which I have never had to resort to using, btw), and I will be staying here for a while.

I ditched my TX as well.. It was really unstable (crashed at least one time a day), switched back to a TE2 but now I switched over to an Acer N311 windows mobile 5 device.
In the past I used to have a TC as well. I still regret that I swapped it for an UX50. The TC is in my opinion the best PalmOS 5 device they ever made (good battery life, bright screen, good text entry, reasonable wifi )
I’ve been using my TC for a couple/few years now. I’d like to upgrade, but there’s not really anything on the market that would be a worthy or logical upgrade step.
I’ll be hanging on to my TC for a while longer it seems . . .
C.
My TC is only 4 months old (It was still being sold in some retail stores!) and it may well be the best PDA I’ve owned. It’s funny to think about how the market has changed from it´s release in 2003…
I’ve had a Psion 5mx, 3 Palm’s and 2 PocketPC’s and I’ve only felt really comfortable with the Psion and the TC. Too bad Psion machines had the “flexi-cable” problem. I hope TC’s have a better build quality.
Aw that’s too bad that you didnt enjoy your TX. I know i am =). I have not touched a TC before but that qwerty keyboard sure is tempting. Btw, do share something about your MDA
I had to downgrade to my palm pilot perofessional during the repair of my TH55s microphone. I must say, THAT was quite some downgrade. PalmOS 2.0 HAS limitations- especially software-wise. Only the very basic stuff runs on it, most software requires OS3.5 or higher. At least I was able to keep my contacts and databook :-))))). In the end I was very happy when my TH55 came back
and quite annoyed about UPS. The guy left it in front of my student corridor room….luckily it was still the when I came home.
I was using a Handspring Visor Deluxe for a while in June before getting an LD. I now have an LD, T|X and my faithful T|C. The T|C has to be the best one of the three in terms of speed and stability. Congratulations on your T|C purchase, I hope it brings you as much as mine has
