Recently, I was at aa arabian bazaar in Vienna for kicks and to meet up with some friends. People who know me well know that I, um, love coke…and look at what I found at the bazaar:

OK, so what? Cola Turka?? Cola turka..dont ask me what it means exactly, but it decyphers to something like Turkish Coke. It tastes pretty well btw, but that is not the topic of discussion.
What concerned me about the can was how the company uses nationalism to market its drink. In austria, hundreds of different coke knockoffs fight for market share; some have major, some minor success. They fight via price, taste, caffeine content(yeah)-and the market basically is open for everyone.
But Ulker, the manufacturer of Cola Turka, took the show into another arena. Its drink tastes pretty well and is darn cheap-AND it has the nationalistic touch that appeals to many. A company that has a similarily well-tasting drink has automatically lost the people attracted by nationalism, and their high road presence leads to more and more people finding out about the drink.
Today, I can’t really conclude on anything. But please, please, tell us what you think!
