Opera Mini is a very popular web browser for the Palm OS. However, it runs only in Java VM’s, and not natively as a Palm OS application. Now, OperaWatch’s Daniel Goldman talked to an Opera spokesperson about why there is no Opera for Palm OS yet.

To cut the long story short-because no hardware manufacturer is interested. Opera has sdaid that porting to the Palm OS would be possible from a technical point of view-but as said, the lack of interest…

Opera apperently does not feel that individual user demand is enough to justify a port. If you ask me, that is rather true, especially if you see that the new owner of the Palm OS essentially is a web browser house(Access makes NetFront, for all who forgot). Access will definitely not be happy about having a competitor enter its lucrative Palm OS market-and its support for Opera is thus going to be rather, um, small.

The only remaining question is: why don’t the buddies finally release NetFront for Palm OS 5…
