BenQSiemens, the manufacturer of my once-beloved Siemens SX1, has recently announced to cease operations. I wanted to write a post about why Siemens will be missed here, but n-tv gave me better matereal. According to them, the BenQSiemens boss asked germans to buy their phones to protect domestic jobs. n-tv also launched a little poll, and 70% of germans said that they were willing to buy german products even at a premium.

So far so good. We looked at Nationalism marketing a frew months ago – and here we have the proof that the concept seems to work.

Nationalism is a cheap marketing “vehicle” as it is usually available in people’s brains by default. Attaching yourself to something that’s already there(e.g. I want to be successful) is much easier than creating a new desire(I want a Binary Clock)…

If you spot something similar, please send me an email!

  1. I’ve been working in Ireland 5 years ago. In local supermarkets were plenty of price tags like “Product of Ireland” along with the slogan “be Irish, buy Irish”. No wonder that even in the Under-developed World AKA Third-world they do that type of marketing nowdays.

  2. Hi Paddy,
the poorer people are, the more racism there is(IMHO)…
