		<description>High scores absolutely kept kids pumping quarters into arcade games for all the reasons you mention &amp; more -- to compete against friends &amp; even unknown jerks (i.e. someone who always could beat your high score); to display naughty messages; to leave your sweetie a nerdy high-score-o-gram love message; etc.

Without these outlets, arcades wouldn&#039;t have made as much money as they did in the early 80s.</description>
