We covered the size of the Aceeca Meazura a few days ago – and as in every Palm OS device review, the screen should be looked at next. The Aceeca Meazura’s most obvious ‘deficiency’ is the monochrome screen – yes, the Meazura has a 4bit 160×160 screen. Now the fact is out – let’s see what the screen can do.
First of all – all I say here is probably moot in a few weeks from now, as the current display will be replaced by a different type soon, due to RoHS requirements.
Anyways, the Meazura’s screen does a good job outdoors and in decent light – however, the m500 on the right still seems to have a slightly lighter background:

Indoors, the Meazura’s backlight is very bright(vs m500):

The backlight mode can be selected simply – there’s a toggle for backlight inversion in the prefs.

Overall, the Meazura’s screen is ok, it reminds me of classic IIIx style displays. Its difficult to say anything positive or negative about it.

Hi Tam,
Thanks for your comments on the Meazura. I agree that compared to many of the color based PDA’s the Meazura’s LCD would seem like a bit of a let down – that is until you take it outside and compare it in sunlight with a color device. The Meazura is much more readable. While we will be introducing some high end color screens in the near future, we have no intention of dropping the mono screen as its sunlight readability and low power consumption make it better suited than color for many applications. It’s boring, but functional. Keep up the good work.
