Engadget recently leaked a few pictures of a new Palm OS device which is rumored to be the soon-to-be-released CDMA Palm OS Treo for Sprint – aka the 755p. According to the long tradition of speculation on new device specs, I dare to serve you the following “planned” Treo 755p specs.
Palm has announced that it plans to rely more and more on a “shared” hardware platform for its Palm OS and Windows CE based offerings; read that Windows CE and Palm OS machines share the same hardware in as many aspects as possible(and can thus be produced at the same manufacturer, too).
The machine looks very similar to a Palm Treo 680 – it probably has the same half-plastic construction already demonstrated with the 680(leading to the lighter stylus). It will probably also have the same hardware except for the CDMA transmitter – so it’ll be 312MhZ again, and 64 MB of NVFS RAM.
As for the 1.3MP camera, well, this is intended to replace the 700p – and thus, the camera needs to be at least the same resolution as it was on the model before. As for the omission of the flash LED…to be honest, I have used quite a few phones with LED and prefer a highly sensitive CCD to a stupid little LED that never quite works anyways.
The machine will be available in dark red and dark blue, and will drop at Sprint’s in June…
Overall, what we get here is the CDMA version of the Treo 680…nothing really new. The clamshell originally speculated about isn’t dead yet IMHO – I still stick to the idea of a “Treo expander”…
P.S. – yes, at first I thought that we are dealing with a Treo 680 in the hands of a freak. However, the number of holes in the speaker on the back is different(Treo 680 has only 6 per row, while this box has 8 )….so we are dealing with either a prototype or a new box…
