One of the biggest nuisances with the Treo 600 was its low-res DSTN screen. Yes, the screen was very bright and provided ample contrast for all practical uses…but it – um – was a bit limited resolution-wise. The Treo 680 now has a HiRes screen – but is the screen good?
First of all, the Treo 680′s screen has only one control possibility(brightness). Palm finally retook a feature from the classic Tungsten T, allowing you to turn the backlight off by pulling the slider all the way to the left. The 680′s screen does very well in sunlight and provides a very good reflection.
Indoors, the Treo 600 and 680 are approximately on-par brightness-wise, but the Treo 680(on the left) delivers way better greens and blacks:

Since the Treo 680′s screen has an active-matrix system, it can follow fast movements much better than the Treo 600′s screen can. The image below shows a fast scrolling text on both Treos:

Overall, I am very happy with the Palm Treo 680′s screen. It provides much brighter colors and works very well in both reflective and transmissive ‘mode’. Congratulations to Palm – well done, and definitely worth upgrading to(not like the infamous m505…)!

Not just the greens and the blacks but the reds and the blues as well. THe seem much more crisp.
