Handango is a pretty expensive ESD, but has cool newsletters and a very nice marketing department feeding analysts excellent information. I always look forward to their Yardstick report, a quarterly publication on software sales – and Handango’s latest Yardstick is here:

Looking at the Yardstick, the most interesting thing is their platform overview. The device ranking shows the Treo 650 second in revenue, but third in number of apps sold. Generally, Palm apps don’t seem to sell as many pieces as do other products, but create a great amount of revenue. The number one handheld in both sections is the Motorola Q, and the BlackBerry pearl is on #3 in terms of revenue and #2 of sales numbers. Dell’s Axim still is going very strong with being on #5 in both revenue and sales.

Handango’s average Software price is 20.90$, and the average price for most categories(except health and fitness) is above 20$. The top-selling categories are Business(17%), with Entertainment and Games having 25% together(see Alex Bloom interview).

Last but not least, the Yardstick contains a top-ten list of bestsellers on a per-platform basis. Interestingly, the SPB Software house seems to “own” the PocketPC department, with 6 of 10 apps being from them. The top-selling application for PocketPC is MobiTV. Neither Palm OS nor PocketPC have a game in the top ten btw…

Overall, the yardstick is very interesting for everyone who’s into software development – and since its just 1 page long, reading it is easy…

  1. They are selling and selling great that is why they are offering discounts in a row on all the distribution sites one after the other. Currently they are offerig their products at 20% discount at http://www.youpark.com.

But the fact is that their products are eye-catching and enjoyable apart from being useful.

  2. Hi Sally,
not sure if youpark is a Handango site…

    Best regards

  3. no tam, youpark.com is not a handango site, I checked thier corporate site and it says Youpark a flagship product of Mobile Weaver ApS was founded by three entreprenuers from Denmark. Their user interface is very clean and founder of Symbian and former President of Macromedia endorses them on his blog (Google them)

Some of the sister sites are http://www.nclubsoft.com http://www.mobtravel.net http://www.dogandbonegames.com
