Access has just sent us an announcement that they plan to hold a “developer day” about their upcoming Access Linux Platform in the LinuxWorld San Francisco 2007, which is situated in the Moscone Center.

The meeting’s schedule covers ALP development, architecture and Orange partner certification(aka how to snug up to Orange(carrier)). The meeting will take one day(1015-1730), lunch is included in the package.

While I definitely welcome this initiative from Access, for me, it is too little. Access should set up a few employees to make a kind of “road show” all over the world demonstrating Access Linux Platform to as many developers as possible. Many semiconductor manufacturers do this all the time(e.g. TI and National Semiconductor) – so Access could do so, too…

Last but not least, here’s the text of the original announcement:

Attend ACCESS Developer Day to get business and technical information on how to create native ACCESS Linux Platform applications. Learn how to market, sell, and differentiate your mobile applications from ACCESS and Orange Partner executives. This interactive session starts at 10:15 and will
provide a step-by-step model of how to bring a mobile application to market and how to work with ACCESS and Orange Partner.

The technical hands-on sessions lead by ACCESS engineers use the ACCESS Linux Platform Development Suite to build native applications using templates, Glade, and demonstrate debugging via Eclipse using a Simulator. These sessions will discuss which technologies are open source and which are
proprietary and how it interacts together to make your application work. Login and apply for the Early Access Program to receive the tools before attending Linuxworld.

Once you have a native ACCESS Linux Platform application, how do you test it to get it into the hands of wireless operators? Orange has named the ACCESS Linux Platform as an approved platform on the network. Find out about Orange compatible and why it is important. Learn what level of testing is
necessary to get your application running on the Orange network.

During the lunch break from 12:30 – 1:30, Garnet OS™, formerly Palm OS developers can test if their applications will work on the ACCESS Linux Platform within the Garnet VM™. (Lunch will be provided).
