afaik, Treo build quality has improved a bit in the past…my 680 seems to work pretty well so far…altough I already had one screen breakdown…

As for ALP – I’m, pretty sure that they will have a compatibility layer in there….

No tears will be shed for the antique PalmOS. It worked brilliantly for it’s intended purpose – devices like the Palm V, and it now sort of almost works in a munged, hacked, patched form for newer devices.

Tam – 2 questions: 1. Does your source know if Palm Linux will ship with legacy emulation, so one can re-use old Palm apps for a while?
2. Will Palm quit cutting every penny on the hardware? I’ve finally given up on Palm due to this issue – there are toys with better hardware than my latest Palm. I haven’t met a Treo user who’s finished a contract with the same Treo they started with. Palm’s new products also don’t hold up to the bumps and drops of daily use + travel, while Blackberries and cheap cell phones handle that just fine.
If they will build products for the end user and not just for quartely financial results I would come back. But when their strategy obviously is “sell the customer junk, pump the margins, sell the company, cash out” I don’t need to play at that table.

sorry for the wrong formulation…

However, a developer I personally trust very much has definitely confirmed to me the existance of the Treo 800p.

I am currently working on tracking down specs/images…

I’m a huge fan, so this pains me – but ‘Official’ or ‘Officially confirmed’ should only ever be used to refer to a statement from a quotable source responsible (in this case) for the product itself. ‘We can’t name sources’ makes it ‘unofficial’ and trustworthy/untrustworthy speculation/rumour, and means the next time you DO have something ‘official’ to announce, it’ll need serious investigation before trusted.
