Thanks to our reader Peter from the UK, we now know that VersaMail 4 indeed can no longer sync. After reading about the problem on TamsPalm, he sent an email to the big orange folks, and found out the following:

“The functionality of being able to Sycronize your Centro, with the Palm Desktop 6.2 and HotSync Manager 7 with VersaMail, is not supported.”
They refer to KB ID 11149 which spells it all out in gory detail. It’s rather disappointing and curious since this facility was available in earlier versions of HotSync Manager.

Another reason to stay far from the Centro…Mark/Space really should port Missing Sync to Windows

  1. Tam,

You said “Another reason to stay far from the Centro…”. That seems a bit of a harsh judgement to me. Versamail is in fact a week email app in many ways, but the Centro is a great platform in many other ways.

Personally, Chattermail for the Palm is the best email app I’ve ever seen on any handheld, and works wonderfully on my Centro.

  2. Hardly seems enough to warrant being described as “another reason to stay far from the Centro.”

There’s loads of highly capable mail alternatives for the Centro, which remains the best Palm phone I’ve ever used.

  3. Who ever syncs VM anyway? It is almost commonplace instructions to turn off the VersaMail Conduit when setting up PD 4.xx. It kills sync time, and is an overall pain.

  4. Hi Folks,
first of all, sorry for all Centro fans…

For me, VersaMail syncing is an essential part of my Palm experience(as I have not yet transitioned to IMAP thanks to brainsware) – when getting over 50 emails a day, having the ability to keep your Outlook inbox and your Palm’s inbox in sync is essential…

    Best regards
    Tam Hanna

  5. This was already reported on BrightHand on Jan 16th.
There are some more ‘goodies’ left out if you want:
    - Category color coding
    - recurring tasks
    - Birthdays and Anniversary reminders

FWIW people on XP can STILL use PalmDesktop 4.2. This has been confirmed as working with Centro.
