The News Observer reports that Jud Bowman, the co-founder of Motricity has just acquired the PocketGear platform(including the remainder of the once-popular PalmGear ESD) from Motricity.

He will remain in the old Durham offices along with 15 unnamed employees, and will run PocketGear independently from Motricity.

As of now, there is next to no news on what this actually means for developers. Nev ertheless, you heard it from TamsPalm first…

P.S. The article is two pages long and contains loads of personal info on Mr.Bowman, but nothing else about the future of the portal…

  1. Well, one significant thing in the article is that PocketGear is now going to focus on selling smartphone software and not “ringtones for teens”, which for us – developers – is the best news here.

  2. Having a historical/emotional tie to all this, will definitely be watching to see how it plays out…
