A few months ago, Palm announced and EOL’d a 1800mAH battery for their Centro smartphone. Seidio now managed to release a version of its own – here is the first official picture:

The battery packs a capacity of 2600mAH(originally 1150), costs 50$ and protrudes from the case(a new backplate is required).
As of now, little is known about how long this battery will actually be useful. Palm has “disabled” some third party batteries with a recent software update for the Treo 680; nobody knows how long this battery will be tolerated.

Funny:
The battery in the picture isn’t for a Centro, it’s for a Treo680 (or maybe 650). Centro has three contacts only and they are in a different place…
Hmmm… Seidio must have grabbed a picture of a Treo battery. The contacts for the Centro battery aren’t in the same place as the Treo’s. They aren’t close to the corner as they appear in the pic. The Centro battery contacts are in the middle of the battery’s side.
As for the door, they don’t say if it’s Onyx black or Obsidian black, and I can’t tell from the pics.
In comparison to Sprint’s extended Centro battery, Sprint’s is only 2000mah, but Sprint does sell a black and a red battery door.
Including the door, this is as expensive as a portable power pack, but doesn’t extend talk time nearly as much as a portable power pack.
Hi,
I can definitely confirm that the picture shows a Treo 650/650 battery!
However, Seidio is a very reputable company and IMHO will not announce a product that isnt real. It IMHO is sth similar to the Nokia N96 8GB that was rumored somew time ago…

I got this “2600mah” battery a few days ago and today is the first time I tried it. Fully charged last night and start to use at 7am and now at 3pm, it is already below half capacity, do not see improvement over the oem battery (1150mah?)
Very disappointed for now, will do more testing.
Hi,
please keep us posted!

It is very disappointed. You would think 2600 vs 1150 you would get at least double usage time. No, it appears to me only 1-2 hours longer.
With OEM battery, I need to charge after work (7am-7pm). With this battery, I need charge just after 8pm. I wanted this battery so that I can charge every other day, not every day. But it does not last that long…
Hi Jenks,
are you sure that your usage remained the same?
