Images of two new color shades have leaked literally months ago – the boxen have just been announced officially:
sprint olive rose 03 2 Sprint releases pink and green Centros with more RAM

Palm has silently doubled the RAM found in these new devices – instead of approx 70MB, the new machines come with about 130MB of free RAM. Furthermore, the latest version of Google Maps and a Palm-owned Facebook client are now in ROM.

IMHO, Palm chose to stick the new Olive green/Vibrant rose devices into the Centro brand for a single reason: market share figures. If Palm would rename their latest oeuvre, its sales would not add to the huge Centro sales (the 3mio mark is coming soon).

The average Centro user will never fill up his Centro’s RAM: the only ones who really benefit from the extra RAM are power users. However, power users usually read technology web sites…and thus know about the upgraded RAM anyways.

Furthermore, the 24mo contracts found on recent cell phone deals make impromptu upgrading difficult (an issue faced by AT&T as the iPhone 3G was released) – which takes the fun out of incrementing the model number…

What do you think?
