Maybe this quote is why China’s wireless standard is of interest to Germans:
“Duncan Clark, the chairman of BDA, a consulting and investment-advisory firm in Beijing, says China had pushed its own standard but initial rollouts have been lackluster.

“TD-SCDMA has been an ‘Emperor’s new clothes’ situation, with officials all professing admiration in public but steadily coming to the realization that this technology would never work,” Clark said in an e-mail response to questions about the announcement.

“It is in fact more of a failed German technology (from Siemens) passed off on China and rebranded as ‘indigenous,’ ” he wrote.

Hi,
I am writing to you because of your concern about the stock image used in our recent Article on Chinese 3G technologies (http://tamspalm.tamoggemon.com/2009/01/02/china-opens-itself-for-advanced-3g-technologies/)

We have chosen this image from a stock image agency, as we needed an image to spice up the article and looked for a picture showing Chinese characters. As we are based in Austria, Vienna, Tamoggemon Systems does not have the ability to determine the content of the image – but as it came off a reputable source, we have assumed it to be a-ok to use.

In case you feel offended by this picture, please accept our sincerest apologies. Do you think that the image should be replaced with something else to prevent further grief; do you maybe have a suggestion?

I wonder if the reason you are interested in the Chinese market is the possibility they could innovate the 3G market?

Many people didn’t notice that China broke the DVD market by circumventing the DVD license…thus DVDs are a lot cheaper now…
