2a Palm pre could use Centro batteryAccording to TreoCentral’s spin-off PreCentral, the pre is likely to use the same battery currently found in Palm’s Centro:

During our one-on-one, we asked Palm to remove the battery door, pretty much expecting them to refuse. Instead, in a sign of their new openness, they happily did and I got a peek at the battery. Though Palm had to follow their rule of not talking battery, they did admit that, yes, I wasn’t wrong when I said that the battery looks identical to the Centro battery.

From my point of view, this was an entirely logical step. As the mobile computing market gets more and more competitive, reusing battery form factors becomes a key part of saving production costs (in a fashion similar to Palm’s mass-deployment of 312MhZ ARM processors). As the Centro’s battery has proven itself to be reliable (and probably cheaper to make than the 680’s, which has more contacts), there is little reason for Palm not to go this route…
