Forum member Artap99 managed to purchase a Palm Touchstone to go with soon-to-be purchased Palm Pre. His local Sprint Store charged just $49.99 after the customer representative quoted him the incorrect price.
As usual, the analyst community went batshit…not understanding the significance of what they just saw: we didn’t just see a Touchstone charger being sold, but we saw a Sprint employee proving total incompetence in all things Pre a few days before launch.
If this level of knowledge persists across Sprint stores (which is likely), the launch could quickly become a total fiasco/mayhem. Back to the drawing board, folks…
P.S. Palm has loads of experience with botched launches. Think Treo 680, Tungsten T3 and so on…

Well, some people never learn. But oh what a mess-up. On the other hand, what’s a charger without the phone: a big paperweight. Smells like a good tear-down opportunity to me.
You are calling yourselves the “analyst community” now?
The employee sold it for the 50$ price, which doesn’t include the conducting back of the Pre. This was caught at checkout but because it was misquoted originally it’s what was sold.
Read the original story instead of quoted soundbites.
“I am pretty sure that it was supposed to be $70 total. I asked the associate over the phone a few times and he said it was $50. When I got to the store he said it was $50 again. I then asked if that included the back cover. He opened the box and showed me that it did.
Upon ringing me up, he stared at the screen for a while and then talked to someone in the back room. That person typed on the computer, let the associate back on, and that was it.
So I think they gave me the discounted price because he told me it was $50 so many times. ” artap99.
