DataViz’s decision to give Palm the finger with the webOS Office tool could backfire on the company significantly – their old rival QuickOffice seems to be more than willing to fill the void.
A posting on the official blog reads as following:
… At Quickoffice, we’re extremely excited to see this development and the increased focus webOS is deservedly obtaining. We’ve already seen increased competition driving innovation in the market, with Android’s Froyo, BlackBerry OS 6, iOS and now the potential of webOS 2.0. We’ve always maintained a mission that we’ll provide robust mobile applications for our users, across all the major mobile platforms, and this scope includes webOS. I think users, and the industry in general, watching webOS will be pleasantly surprised if they continue to watch Quickoffice and our continued leadership in the mobile space.
…
As of this writing, neither a release timeframe nor a feature list have been provided – watch this space to find out more about QuickOffice for webOS!

backfire? current webOS user base is minuscule and in a race to zero! good business means to focus on where the market is – and that’s iPhone, iPad, and Android!
I’m glad to hear this. With my Treo 755p fading I see a good chance of a Pre on the horizon. Sure, it doesn’t seem to have much more life left to it than the Treo line, but I’m going to think positive and hope for the best. I would really like to see people leave DataViz and their constant $20 per feature upgrades behind. Office 2007 and OpenOffice support would do me fine.
Hi all,
it IMHO is the policy of the small pond and the big toad coming to effect here – there may be few webOS heads, but there are no competitors.
As for the Pre: I would wait a bit for the first generation of HP devices. Unfortunately, I have no ETA for these myself…
All the best and thanks for talking back

I have it on good information from someone very close that Quickoffice IS working on a big release for WebOS. It still may be a bit away, but stay tuned!!!
Hi,
thank you so much!
Do you have any other info you might want to share? We would keep your identity protected!

After reading your response above and hearing news on the net this week I will go back into a wait state and watch for WebOS 2.0 on a new device from HP before jumping. If it doesn’t look like that device will work for me I will most likely grab a Pre while they are still in stock.
Thanks Tam!
Hi Scott,
thank you so much for talking back!
As said: I am not the one who has posted comment number 4. However, I would not be unexpectant of QuickOffice firing in big here – the opportunity to get DataViz is too large to miss…

I for one am glad to hear that QuickOffice will be developing for Wes OS. I think that Dataviz is making a serious mistake by stopping development of Documents To Go for Web OS.
Hi Folks,
if we see it as Palm and HP, it is true.
But who tells you that Dataviz knew about this beforehand.
With compliments
