UPDATE: TamsPalm reader Brandon has written in to report that the image is a fake. It came from a PreCentral competition…

We have seen webOS device codenames leak out of source files a few weeks ago – since then, things became mostly silent.

Engadget now found the following in a job ad from Palm looking for actors:
broadway Broadway / Manta / Topaz names mentioned in Palm job ad

On a similar beat, our webOS head Simon Pfundstein recently found the following image in his inbox. Once again, we were NOT able to identify it as true or fake, but felt like it would fit the topic:
Palm Pixi 2 Broadway / Manta / Topaz names mentioned in Palm job ad

Stay tuned – 2011 will be interesting…

Mobile advertising is one of the fastest-growing monetization venues for third-party developers – the late Berthold Thomae’s warning (the numbers can’t add up) apparently was not heard.

App data was passed to advertisers secretly in order to optimize yield. ThinkDigit now reports the following:

In the case of Lalo versus Apple Inc. et al, Apple and few major iOS developers are being sued by Jonathan Lalo for selling his personal data from his iPad and iPhone to advertisers, data which included his age, sex, and location information.

Even though moving your company to a safe offshore country will likely keep you safe as an ISV, don’t complain that you haven’t been warned…

In the times of Palm OS, the platform was praised for the huge number of available third-party apps. webOS has not been so lucky so far.

MobileCrunch now reports the following:

Just shy of three months later, webOS has now passed 5,000 apps, no flubbing required.

Not much to add here – except that Windows Phone 7 has hit the same number a few days ago…

Some things leave even seasoned industry professionals speechless. The pineapple story is unforgettable – and there’s another similarly funny happening from the USA.

MSNBC reports the following, incredibly funny story:

He pulled what the cooks thought was a gun and demanded money, according to police. But the cooks grabbed knives and said they weren’t handing anything over.

At that point, Taylor became apologetic …

Taylor was gone by the time police arrived, but they caught up with him a short time later. Officers said Taylor confessed to the crime, but told them he didn’t have a gun, but used an iPhone.

Human stupidity truly knows no limits…

This one is a short update for all homebrew heads – the selection of apps in the PreWare catalog currently is smaller than it should be.

The reason hits us via the webosinternals Twitter feed:
no apps PreWare app selection limited due to CMS bug

Not much to add here…

Traditionally, the idea of a network service provider is the transmission of data packets – whatever in it, the carrier is not concerned. In fact, Austrian law even acknowledges this fact specifically…which is quite a feat.

Unfortunately, T-Mobile of Germany seems to have found a way to fuxate even something as simple as serving TCP/IP packets. HagensTechiBlog reports that the operator modifies HTML data, packing external CSS files into the HTML file.

The damages of this process are obvious: not only is caching eliminated, it furthermore makes page rendering slower as the whole CSS has to be downloaded before HTML arrives.

Find out more via the URL below – even though the page is in German, the screenshots are HTML and CSS:

We have heard quite a bit about Palm’s upcoming enyo framework in the past – it looks like work has now started to proceed for good.

A job posting on LinkedIn now reveals the following:

The Enyo Framework Team at Palm is looking for talented engineers. Come join the team that makes headlines with each new release, from the Ares cloud development environment to the Enyo framework. As part of the team, you will collaborate on new features for both our built-in applications as well as third party developers. Help push the envelope on what is possible using web technologies, including canvas, webGL, CSS3, hardware-accelerated animations and transforms, HTML5 video and more. This position can be located in either Sunnyvale HQ, or our new San Francisco labs office in SOMA.

Stay tuned for further info as we get it…

We have had the Aceeca MEZ1500 in our labs in the past – back then it ran Windows CE.

Luc Le Blanc, better known as the master of cave mapping, now spotted the following on the Aceeca web site:
mez1500 garnet Aceeca MEZ1500 now with Garnet OS

Looks like the little critter will soon also do Garnet – if that isn’t fun news, what is?

We have heard a nice bit of rumors about the Palm Pre 2 hitting Rogers – so far, not much factual information was heard about it.

Palm Canada has now added a Rogers logo on its web site:

According to various news outlets, the device will cost 99 Canadian dollars on a three-year contract.

We have covered LG’s upcoming dual core smartphone quite a bit during the last weeks – and are glad to bring coverage to an end.

UnwiredView brings us the image below, which comes from the web site of a Swedish retailer:

Incidentally, prices are around €345 / $450 on contract and €555 / $730 off contract.

Let’s close this post with a little hint: in the past, both Samsung and Nokia have been very friendly when it comes to giving away devices to developers…

As stated in the past, your comments and news tips are what keeps this blog network running smoothly. We have decided to run a giveaway to thank you all for your input.

This week, our competition is sponsored by the folks at MobileFun’s. MobileFun is an up and coming retailer of all kinds of mobile gadgets, and definitely is worth more than a look.

For this week, we are proud to give away to the winner two products – he is allowed to pick which one he wants. Our first prize is the Clingo Universal Game Wheel, which is a really cool accessory for all accelerometer-controlled games. Alternatively, the winner can also pick a Nano Bluetooth dongle for his PC or notebook.

Winning is really easy: all you have to do is post an useful comment anywhere on the Tamoggemon Content Network. Post it anywhere during the next week, and leave your email adress behind – you might just get lucky.

Finally, please allow me to ask for feedback. Is there any type of price you are especially interested in? Books, maybe? Or Chocolate? Let us know by posting a comment here – these do count for the giveaway!

Last Sunday, we announced the first round of our new reward program called “the golden comment”. The first instance was kindly supported by our partners at Krusell‘s, who will donate a case to the lucky winner.

With great pride, I announce that the first round of the competition goes to LookALike. We have sent him an email, and hope that he will enjoy his price.

Stay tuned – the next round comes up shortly!
